Which Ancient Roman would you invite for lunch?
“Lend me your ears”
You’ll see in our del.icio.us news links that we’ve added added a story from the BBC regarding Italian opposition leader Silvio Berlusconi’s comments this week that his Latin is so good that he could engage in lunchtime conversation with Julius Caesar.
Which Ancient Roman would you ‘do lunch’ with, and what questions would you like to ask them?
We’re assuming you’ll not be dining with Livia as it may be your last meal!
Your nominations please, either add a comment to this post or sign in to flickr as an existing member of our group (or join flickr for free and join our group - we’d love you to join us!) and add your comments to the discussion there.
“Tiberious, would you mind passing the garum? Mmmm, what lovely figs…”

Thanks for the responses on our Flickr discussion pages which include:
I think I’d like Augusto or Traiano
actually I don’t know what I’d ask…..
I just would like to spend a day with one of them
in the Ancient Rome
I would have to say either Caesar or Marcus Aurelius. I’m sure Caesar would have amazing stories to tell, and discussing philosophy with Marcus would be a blast!
Lucius Cornelius Sulla. You just know it would be a good time, you just wouldn’t know exactly what to expect to happen!
Thanks all for your contributions. For me I would have to say Augustus for his stories of his rise from noble boy to one of the most important historical figures in the history of man, and Cicero for his rhetorical skills and ambition.
