About Romanitas

The definition of Romanitas is loosely ‘what it meant to be a Roman’ – looking back to the days of the Kingdom, Republic, and then Empire which spanned the period from around the middle of the 8th Century BC to the late 5th Century AD.
Romanitas never existed in these times as a word, but it describes the great ’sense of self’ which must have gripped those individuals who rose from tribesmen and women on a pastoral settlement on the Palatine Hill to become an ‘Ancient World Superpower’.
This site is dedicated to any tools, links, events, media and reference material that exists which can help the enthusiast learn more about and enjoy the spectacle of an ancient world which has formed the basis of so much of our modern lives.
This site welcomes interaction and contribution. For instance, visit our Flickr group for photographs of Ancient Roman artifacts and sites. So please do get in touch if you have anything you would like to contribute: contact@romanitas.net
